The King’s M&M’s

Our 8th grade students recently stepped back in time through the interactive King’s M&Ms activity, a hands-on simulation designed to bring colonial history to life. As students “earned” M&Ms only to see them taxed by the Crown, they experienced firsthand the frustration colonists felt under British rule and gained a deeper understanding of the concept of taxation without representation. The engaging lesson sparked thoughtful discussion, critical thinking, and plenty of “aha” moments as students connected the activity to real historical events that helped lead to the American Revolution.
