Mrs. Morgan Smith’s social studies classes kicked off their Medieval China unit this week with an inquiry activity designed to spark curiosity. Students were given pictures of different Medieval Chinese inventions and were asked to predict what each artifact might have been and how it could have been used during the time period.
To guide their thinking, students used a question chart strategy, that Mrs. Smith learned during a former EPIC PD session. With it, they created a mix of factual, predictive, analytical, and evaluative questions about each item. This helped students look closer, think deeper, and make connections before the unit officially begins.
The activity gave students a hands-on way to start exploring Medieval China, and they’re excited to keep learning about the inventions and ideas that shaped the world.
