6th-grade social studies class at Rockcastle County Middle School had an exciting hands-on learning experience recently when they spoke with archaeologist Niki Lainhart from Expedition Archaeology.
Students learned about the work of archaeologists, including how artifacts are discovered, studied, and preserved. They even got the unique opportunity to handle real artifacts over 4,000 years old, including pieces of pottery—some carefully glued back together to preserve their original form.
“It was amazing to actually hold pieces of history and learn how much work goes into uncovering and studying them,” said one student. The experience gave students a tangible connection to the past, making lessons about ancient civilizations come alive.
Thanks to Ms. Lainhart, our students walked away with a deeper appreciation for history, archaeology, and the stories artifacts can tell.
