This year’s Veterans Day Program at the Morgan County High School was a meaningful and memorable event thanks to the dedication and hard work of our high school and middle school students. In the days leading up to the ceremony, students from all Social Studies classes worked together to transform our gymnasium, creating a patriotic and welcoming space to honor the veterans in our community.
On the morning of the program, students greeted guests at the sign-in table and handed out programs as visitors arrived. Several high school students also had special roles in the ceremony itself. Our Morgan County High Band of Pride played the national anthem and high school students performed patriotic songs. Our middle school students read poems and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Four high school students conducted a traditional flag-folding ceremony, explaining the meaning behind each fold of the American flag. A current MCHS student, who recently joined the National Guards and completed boot camp, was also honored at our ceremony.
To further honor our guests, students helped serve lunch to the visiting veterans following the ceremony and stayed afterward to assist with cleanup. In addition to their work during the event, students were encouraged to bring in photos of veterans from their own families. These photos were displayed in the school’s entryway, creating a touching tribute and personal connection to the day’s celebration.
We are proud of our students for demonstrating respect, gratitude, and leadership as we honored the veterans who have given so much for our country.
